Psychological Assessments

At Psychology for Black Girls, we believe that access to psychological and neuropsychological evaluations should never depend on privilege, money, or connections. Far too often, Black girls and women are misdiagnosed, overlooked, or denied testing that could open the door to life-changing support. We are committed to breaking down these barriers.

These evaluations aren’t just about labels—they help create a clearer picture so the right support, strategies, and resources can be put in place.

What Are Psychological And Neuropsychological Assessments?

Psychology for Black Girls
  • Psychological Assessments help identify conditions like anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism, trauma, and other mental health concerns.
  • Neuropsychological Evaluations assess learning, memory, attention, and executive functioning — often used for ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, and brain-based differences.
These tools don’t define you — they empower you. They provide clarity, validation, and a roadmap for the right care, interventions, and accommodations.

Why Assessments Matter?

  • Black girls are often labeled instead of understood.
  • Many families don’t pursue evaluations because of cost, stigma, or lack of representation in the field.
  • Schools and systems frequently overlook neurodivergence in Black girls, delaying support.

By making evaluations more affordable, accessible, and culturally responsive, we ensure that Black girls and women receive the recognition and resources they deserve.

What To Expect Throughout the Assessment Process

We realize that initiating a psychological assessment can be scary. We are committed to providing a process that is as easy and supportive as possible for you:

1. Initial Consultation

The process begins with an initial consultation in which we gather information about developmental history, current concerns, and previous evaluations. This stage outlines the strengths and challenges of the individual.

2. Diagnostic Assessments

We use a multi-factor model for assessment using a mix of standardized tests, observational tools, and parent/teacher input assessing:

  • Communication and language skills
  • Social interaction and reciprocity
  • Behavioral patterns and sensory processing
  • Cognitive skills

Additional testing, depending on the needs of the individual, may include neuropsychological testing or speech-language evaluations to provide a comprehensive understanding. We also work in conjunction with other healthcare providers when appropriate to provide a comprehensive evaluation.

3. Session on Feedback

Once assessments are complete, we schedule a feedback session in order to go through findings in detail. During the feedback session, we:

  • Explain the results and diagnosis, in simple, clear language that is easy to understand.
  • Provide a full written report
  • Offer suggestions for interventions, therapies, and resources.
  • Address any questions and concerns of families.

4. Follow-up Support

Our commitment does not stop with the diagnosis. We have continued support in order to help the family through treatment options, educational planning, and community resources. We also have workshops and counseling for the families and caregivers to more effectively understand autism and ways of implementing strategies.
